このように言っては何ですが、かなり minor な内容の本が出るようです。以下がそれです。私は Warsaw School of Logic の歴史に興味がありますので、この本は後日注文しておこうと思います。かなり細かい話の本みたいです。Macedonia 共和国の logic とか、Bulgaria の logic とか、そのような話題が取り上げられています。どんな logic なんだろう？ すごすぎるな。とはいえ、Macedonia 共和国や Bulgaria の人たちからすると、地球の裏側の極東の島国で logic を勉強している人々がいると考えることの方が不思議に思われるかもしれません。だいたい logic の始祖である Stagira の哲人の故郷は、極東から比べれば圧倒的に Macedonia 共和国や Bulgaria のすぐそばであり、極東で logic をするよりも、Macedonia 共和国や Bulgaria で logic をする方が、ずっと違和感がないと、これらの地域の人たちは言うかもしれません。

The history of logic and analytic philosophy in Central and Eastern Europe is still known to very few people. As an exception to the rule, only two scientific schools became internationally popular: the Vienna Circle and the Lvov-Warsaw School. Nevertheless, the countries included in this region have not only joint history, but also joint cultural dynamics. This book is a collection of rare material regarding logical and analytic-philosophical traditions in Central and Eastern European countries, covering the period from the late nineteenth century to the early twenty-first century. An encyclopedic feature covers the history of logic and analytic philosophy in all European post-Socialist countries: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Eastern Germany, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine. The cultural and social context of this philosophy is considered as well.

トゥールミン、ジャニク、『ウィトゲンシュタインのウィーン』、平凡社ライブラリー版は、これで購入したのは3冊目です。TBSブリタニカ版も持っているので全部合わせると4冊も持っていることになる。随分持っていますね。持ち過ぎですね。今回復刊された平凡社ライブラリー版は、以前の平凡社ライブラリー版と比べて本の重さが結構軽くなっている。紙質も柔らかくなっている。前と比べて持ち運びに便利で、電車の中で読むのに都合がよさそうだったから購入しました。著者や訳者の先生方には申し訳ないのですが、正直に言いますと、この本はところどころ拾い読みしただけで、通して読んでいません。すみません。またそのうち読みます。なんにしろ面白いことは確かで勉強になります。

Karl Kraus を特集している岩波の『思想』を購入しましたが、トゥールミン、ジャニクの『ウィトゲンシュタインのウィーン』を読んだ方ならお分かりのように、Wittgenstein は Kraus から大きな影響を受けているようで、そのような訳でこの『思想』を入手しました。Kraus については、実は私はよく知らないのですが、彼は偽善と虚飾をひどく嫌い、aphorism などを使って、当時の Wien の皮相な政治や文化を痛罵し続けたようです。謹厳実直な Wittgenstein に合っていますね。周知の通り aphorism という表現形式は Tractatus で採られています。Kraus は 男性同士の同性愛に寛容だったようですが、これも Wittgenstein の性向に合っています。Kraus については今後学んで行きたいです。

An Oxford Greeting

I came up to Oxford with a largely Continental background, and my first meeting with him [M. Dummett] was the best introduction to analytic philosophy; he said something like this: “You wish to study philosophy of mathematics. The subject did not really begin before Frege and his definition of natural numbers in sections 55-80 of ‘Die Grundlagen der Arithmetik.’ So read these paragraphs and come back to me in two weeks with a paper telling me what you think of it.”
