1本目の Ramsey の文献は、Principia の 2nd ed. に対する短い書評です。ごく簡単に 2nd ed. の問題点が指摘されています。Ramesy によると、例によって、the Axiom of Reducibility が問題の焦点であり、2nd ed. では、これをなしで mathematical induction までは確保できている(とされている)ものの、実数論は手放さざるを得ず、実数論まで再度確保し直すためには、the Axiom of Reducibility に代わる新たな公理が発見されなければならないというのが Whitehead and Russell の立場であるが、そもそも困難の生じ来る淵源は Russell らの哲学的分析にあり、type thoery をうまい具合に修正してやれば、新しい公理など見つけるまでもなくすべてうまくいくのである、とのことである。そして Wittgenstein によって放たれた Russell に対する同一性についての批判に対しては、2nd ed. で何も論じていないのは遺憾であると Ramsey は記しています。
なお、この書評には Ramsey の署名がどこにも見当たらない。だから本当に Ramsey が書いた書評なのか私は保証できないが、一応そういうことらしい。どこか他のページに署名があるのかもしれませんが、内容的にも Ramsey の書いたものであろうし、Ramsey にしか書けないものだと思われます*1。
ちなみに、この書評は昔々の Nature に掲載されているのですが、今回初めて昔々の Nature を手に取ってみたら、さらに昔のヴィクトリア朝時代に発行された magazine を髣髴させるものがありました。今は確か visual な雑誌だと思うのですが、何だか明治時代の新聞みたいでした。古い紙面の雰囲気は英語の Wikipedia, 項目‘Nature (journal)’で見ることができます(2010年2月14日現在)。

*1:Type theory を modify すればよいのだとか、Russell らの同一性概念に問題があると指摘するところから、そう思われます。
