まず論文から。

実は言うと、Davidson さんの Inquiries into Truth and Interpretation を、私は持っていない。そのうち購入しようと思いつつ、今に至っている。ひどい話だと思う。不勉強極まりない。本当に購入しなければならないと思うが、その前に取り合えず上記の文献を入手。上記2本目は1本目の初出分。念のために入手。これらを入手したのは、Davidson さんの slingshot argument を確認するため。
次に新刊書籍。

購入して、中を見てから気が付いたのですが、この本に掲載されている論文の大半が net で誰でも無料で見れるものばかりである。全部で17本の論文が収録されているが、そのうち11本が既刊の journal に出ていたもので、net で以前から読めるものである。特に11本中10本は完全に誰でも無料で読める。私自身も net 経由で入手している論文も多い。この本の刊行予定が announce された際に、全然 description も contents も見ずに、よく知られた先生方が編集されていることだし、ということで、何も考えずに注文した。なので、本日ページをめくってみてちょっと驚いた。別に構わないのですが。事情を知っていても、やはり購入したでしょうから。本になっている方が便利だし…。それに読んでない論文ばかりなので、いい機会でもある。

以前から Two Dogmas 論文自身は net で読むことができたと思いますが、上記のページを見ると、Two Dogmas の二つの version にかなり大きな違いがあることがわかります。だいぶ削除されている部分もあれば、たっぷり付け加えられているところもある。Quine を専門にされている方は、おそらく無視できないような量の異同があるのではなかろうか？ もうそんなことは先刻承知のことかもしれませんが…。これは私は知りませんでした。Two Dogmas の影響力の歴史を調べようという方は、1951年版が与えた影響と、1961年版が与えた影響を区別し、かつ比較してみる必要があるでしょう。なお、別の HP にも同じように異同がわかるよう体裁を施した Two Dogmas が net で公開されているようです。
