昨日まで私が知らなかったことを二つ記します。

以前に次のような journal が近刊予定だと announce されていた。
- Journal for the History of Analytical Philosophy
Net で誰でも無料で閲覧できるようである。Editor in Chief はこの間 Frege に関する本を出版された Mark Textor さんである。そろそろ刊行されたかなと、net で検索してみたが、まだ刊行されていないようである。そしてこの journal は New Prairie Press から出るということを知る。そこでこの出版社の HP を見てみると、今まで知らなかったのだが、次のような journal が何年も前からこの出版社から出されていたことを昨日初めて知る。

この journal の説明文を見ると次のようである。
The Baltic International Yearbook of Cognition, Logic and Communication is edited by the Center for Cognitive Sciences and Semantics at the University of Latvia in Riga and published online. It is managed and supervised by leading American and European philosophers who have been trained in analytic philosophy. It is aimed at but not limited to academic audiences. It will be of interest to students and researchers in the field of philosophy as well as in connected disciplines such a psychology, computer sciences and linguistics. It is available at no cost, without license or subscription.
Webcat では hit しないようである(Online only の journal みたいである。)。この journal はLatvia の Riga で出しているという。珍しい*1。2005年から毎年出ているみたいで、2009年分まで刊行済みになっている。誰でも無料で論文を見ることができ、DL も可能である。Net で見ることができるのは2007年の号からのようである。調べると2008年の vol. 4 は 200 Years of Analytical Philosophy という特集になっている。目次を見ると興味深い論文が多数ある。そこでそれら論文をすべて入手させてもらった。以下がそれである。

よく知られた論者が寄稿されている。どれもこれも興味深いが、夜も遅いし、年賀状作成で疲れているし、お腹もすいたし、それに自分自身の勉強もしたいというのが本当のところなので、一部の論文にだけ、以下で触れます。(でも、勉強せずに寝るかもしれない…。)
Beaney さんによると Russell の propositional function が生まれたのは、1902年5月3日のことだと言う。そこまで特定できるというのもすごいですね。このように特定できるとする論証が、氏の論文の p. 10 辺りに出てきます。
Connelly さんの論文では、Collingwood と Analytical Philosophy and Logical Positivism が取り上げられている。珍しい取り合わせだと思う。私には Collingwood さんは独立した哲学者、あるいは孤立した哲学者という印象があるのだが、この Collingwood さんと Analytical Philosophy and Logical Positivism とは、何か深い関係にあるのだろうか？ 論文をちらっとだけ見ると、Collingwood さんは Analytical Philosophy and Logical Positivism を、いわば反面教師として自己の哲学を確立させたようである。両者はそのような関係にあるみたいである。
Lepage さんの論文では、Russell と Poincaré の論争が取り上げられ、この論争は二人の定義観の違いに根があり、しかしこの二人の相違も Lesniewski の定義観をもってすれば、自然に調停できるとする。
Majer さんの論文では、かつての Logicism, Intuitionism and Formalism に、Husserl's phenomenological approach to the foundations of arithmetic の立場を付け加えるべきだとし、この Husserl の立場は、Logicism と Formalism の間に fit すると主張されているようです。
Peckhaus さんの論文では、Hegel 以後のドイツにおける論理学の歴史について取り上げています。つまり、当時の当地の哲学者たちは、いかにすれば Hegel 流の metaphysics が混入した logic を、伝統的論理学に後戻りすることなく、改良できるのかについて論じていたようであり、このことを Peckhaus さんは調べておられます。

昨日何気なく OUP の catalogue を見ていると、次のような本が間もなく出ると書かれている。

哲学に関する様々な質問に哲学者たちが答えた内容を記しているようである。この本が出るということは少し前に知っていたが、どういう本なのかは、それほど関心はなかったので、詳しくは知らなかった。OUP の catalogue をよく読むと、website の
- AskPhilosophers.org
という、Alexander George さんが立ち上げた (と記憶する) HP があって、そこに投稿された哲学的な質問に、George さんをはじめ、多数の哲学者が返答したものを select して本にしたのが、上記の本のようである。「Alexander George さんについてはよく知らないのだけれど*2、website も運営しているのだろうか。一体それはどんなものだろう？」と、その AskPhilosophers.org を昨日初めて見てみた。すると中々たくさんの質問が寄せられており、 Frege 研究の Richard Heck さんや Gödel の入門書を書かれている Peter Smith さんなどが、多数の質問に回答されているみたいである。何だか楽しそうですね。また今度よく見てみます。
